Phoenix Nation of the
Algonquin Federation Guides Program
Algonquin Federation Guides Program
The Phoenix Nation, of the larger Algonquin Longhouse Inc., NFP Guides and Princesses program (https://www.algonquinlonghouse.org), is a father-son program that strives to build strong enduring relationships between fathers and their sons, in which there is communication, mutual respect, understanding, and companionship. Through the program, you and your son will create amazing memories that last two lifetimes, by spending time together at campouts and participating in regularly organized fun activities and service events. The program is for boys in elementary school and can extend into middle school (kindergarten through 6th, 7th, or 8th grade). The program is an amazing opportunity to further bond with your son along with other like-minded fathers/sons in your community. You'll be able to spend one-on-one time together outside of your regular whole-family activities, while your son still thinks you are pretty cool! It is a ton of fun for both dads and sons alike!
The Phoenix Nation is made up of four separate tribes; the Nez Perce, the Cherokee, the Black Bear, and the Moose. The Nez Perce tribe draws its members primarily from the Palatine, Hoffman Estates, and Inverness area. The Cherokee tribe draws its members primarily from Arlington Heights. And each of the Black Bear and Moose tribes draw their members from Palatine. Each of the four tribes has a number of father/son members who gather regularly with their own tribes for monthly meetings to discuss and plan tribe events, and reinforce the six core AIMS of the program.
In addition to the regular tribe meetings, the real fun of the program and the Phoenix Nation is attending the monthly nation-wide events, including three weekend-long campouts each year (Fall, Winter, and Spring) attended by all tribes in the nation. Typically, for two of our campouts (Fall and Winter) we sleep in cabins at YMCA campgrounds, and for the late Spring campout we go tent-camping. On months without a campout, we organize events such as a Schaumburg Boomers baseball games or Chicago Wolves hockey games, nation Olympics, museum sleepovers, foot golf, a pine wood derby, sledding, model rocket launching, bowling, a fishing derby, Battle House Laser Tag, packing meals to send to starving children around the world at Feed My Starving Children, packing Easter baskets to donate to local Children's Hospitals, and much, much more.
There truly is no other father/son organization like this in the area, and we hope you will consider joining one of the tribes in our Nation and getting more of that cherished on-on-one time with your son(s). We'd love to have you!
The Phoenix Nation is one of several nations around the Chicagoland area that operates under, and with guidance from, the Algonquin Longhouse, Inc. NFP (a 501(c)(3) charitable organization). The Algonquin Lounghouse is the governing Federation for the each of the Algonquin Federation Guides and Princesses groups in the Chicagoland area.
